BYLINE: Anupam Nath (ANUPAM)NEW DELHI — India’s biggest solar power company is to begin generating electricity from solar panels in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, the government said Wednesday.
The state government said in a statement that the company will use solar panels to produce power from the plant’s first 10 megawatt plant.
The solar panels will be manufactured by a subsidiary of India’s SunEdison Group, the state government’s statement said.
The plant will have capacity to produce 3,000 megawatts of power per year, or 5 percent of India, which currently consumes about 1.5 gigawatts of electricity.
The plant is expected to produce between 5.2 and 5.5 megawatts per year.
